Hi, and welcome to my personal portfolio, where I share my skills, experiences, and passions. I'm Simone Arrotini, a cybersecurity student and software developer. I am currently in the second year of the MSc in Cybersecurity at Sapienza University of Rome. From January to June 2026 I was a visiting researcher at the University at Buffalo, under the supervision of Prof. Nicholas Mastronarde. There I worked on my master's thesis, whose goal was to detect entire categories of attacks (jamming, denial of service, and GPS spoofing) directed against UAV networks, using machine learning. My main research interests lie in artificial intelligence applied to cybersecurity, from network intrusion detection to web application security, with both machine learning and deep learning approaches. What draws me most is the evaluation side of it: how well a model holds up outside the scenario it was trained on, and how it behaves against an adversary that adapts. Thanks to my studies, I have developed strong skills in Python, GIT, Maven, Java, C, and MySQL, along with a solid understanding of operating systems, assembly languages, PHP, and JavaScript. Moving to the frontend, I work with HTML, CSS, React, and Bootstrap. The MSc has since built more specialised ground on top of this: cryptography, network infrastructures and practical network defence, ethical hacking, malware analysis and incident forensics, machine learning security and biometric systems, alongside the governance side of the field through risk management, security governance, and cyber and computer law. Beyond technical skills, my academic journey has equipped me with strong problem-solving abilities and organizational skills that I apply both professionally and in everyday life. I have also attended university courses and seminars on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and Agile methodologies. I have also followed a cybersecurity training programme run by Leonardo, made up of lectures and seminars and closed by a Capture the Flag competition, and completed an internship as an IT tutor and lab assistant at the University of L'Aquila during the Pinkamp programme. Throughout my studies I have also worked as a waiter, to stay in touch with the working world from the very beginning. On a personal level, I'm a reliable, friendly, and creative person. I love music, art, and the mountains, and I spend much of my free time drawing, listening to music, hiking, exploring new places, and enjoying time with friends. Ciao e benvenuto nel mio portfolio personale, dove condivido le mie competenze, esperienze e passioni. Io sono Simone Arrotini, studente di cybersecurity e sviluppatore software. Attualmente frequento il secondo anno della laurea magistrale in Cybersecurity alla Sapienza Università di Roma. Da gennaio a giugno 2026 sono stato visiting researcher presso la University at Buffalo, sotto la supervisione del Prof. Nicholas Mastronarde. Lì ho lavorato alla mia tesi magistrale, il cui obiettivo era rilevare, con tecniche di machine learning, intere categorie di attacchi (jamming, denial of service e GPS spoofing) condotti ai danni di reti di droni. I miei principali interessi di ricerca riguardano l'intelligenza artificiale applicata alla cybersecurity, dalla network security alla web security, con approcci sia di machine learning sia di deep learning. Quello che mi interessa di più è il lato della valutazione: quanto un modello regge fuori dallo scenario su cui è stato addestrato, e come si comporta davanti a un avversario che si adatta. Grazie ai miei studi, ho sviluppato solide competenze in Python, GIT, Maven, Java, C e MySQL, insieme a una buona padronanza dei sistemi operativi, dei linguaggi assembly, PHP e JavaScript. Passando al frontend, lavoro con HTML, CSS, React e Bootstrap. Su queste basi la magistrale ha poi costruito competenze più specialistiche: crittografia, infrastrutture di rete e difesa pratica delle reti, ethical hacking, analisi dei malware e incident forensics, machine learning security e sistemi biometrici, oltre al lato di governance della materia, tra risk management, security governance e diritto dell'informatica. Oltre alle competenze tecniche, il mio percorso accademico mi ha dotato di forti capacità di problem solving e competenze organizzative che applico sia professionalmente che nella vita quotidiana. Ho anche frequentato corsi universitari e seminari sull'intelligenza artificiale, la cybersecurity e le metodologie Agile. Ho inoltre seguito un percorso di formazione in cybersecurity con Leonardo, fatto di lezioni e seminari e concluso con una gara Capture the Flag, e ho svolto un tirocinio come tutor informatico e assistente di laboratorio presso l'Università dell'Aquila durante il Pinkamp. Durante tutto il percorso di studi ho lavorato anche come cameriere, per restare da subito in contatto con il mondo del lavoro. A livello personale, sono una persona affidabile, amichevole e creativa. Amo la musica, l'arte e la montagna, e trascorro gran parte del mio tempo libero disegnando, ascoltando musica, camminando in montagna, esplorando nuovi luoghi e godendomi il tempo con gli amici.
